Where Is Prepdeck From Shark Tank Today?
Having grandiose visions of weeknight dinners when grocery shopping on a carefree Sunday morning is much different than coming face-to-face with a complicated recipe at 7:00 p.m. after a long day at the office. Many of us would agree that life would be a lot easier if we had a convenient way of streamlining a few easy dinner recipes for busy weeknights amidst the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day obligations. That's where Prepdeck comes in.
One budding entrepreneur, Alexander Eburne, felt that stress every time he cooked a meal, so he invented a product to keep specific spices, ingredients, and cooking utensils in one easy-to-manage compartment system. He took his new invention to "Shark Tank" on Season 13, Episode 16 in 2022, hoping to gain a hefty investment of $750,000 for 7.5% of his business. After Eburne made his pitch to the "Shark Tank" investors and guest shark Daniel Lubetzky, most of the ABC stars either didn't feel confident enough to invest in that specific market or didn't feel Prepdeck was worth such a lofty investment for such little return. Kevin O'Leary was the only Shark willing to bite, but he came up short of Eburne's original request. In the end, Eburne walked away with no deal.
Despite not securing a "Shark Tank" investment, though, Prepdeck is up and running and continues to see success in 2023.
Prepdeck gained support before debuting on national television
Pretty much everyone needs a convenient method of storing prepped foods until they're ready to cook. Prepdeck was founded in 2017 as a way for experienced and novice home chefs alike to take hold of their meal organization with one easy-to-use portable system. Before making his way to "Shark Tank" in 2022, company founder Alexander Eburne gauged interest in his new business by starting an Indiegogo account for Prepdeck in 2018. After a little over a month live on the public-funding website, the company surpassed its original $25,000 goal. By August 12, 2018, the company had gained funding from more than 2,000 backers in the amount of $338,770.
Fast-forwarding to 2021, Prepdeck gained the support of a multimillion-dollar corporation by winning Amazon Launchpad's Innovator of the Year award. Not only did all of this funding help the Prepdeck business increase its production and reliable shipping efforts, but the support also made Eburne an ideal candidate for ABC's "Shark Tank."
While Eburne did try to negotiate with Kevin O'Leary on Mr. Wonderful's proposed counter-offer in 2022, the businessman felt confident enough to walk away from the offer. Sure enough, Prepdeck continues to gain new followers and release new and exciting products.
Prepdeck forges ahead in 2023
Walking away without a $750,000 investment hasn't stopped Prepdeck founder Alexander Eburne from continuing to grow his business and debut new products under the Prepdeck label. Fans can preorder the Prepdeck Gen 2 system directly from the company's website for $129. They also have the opportunity to buy a Sous Chef Kit, which is more expensive but comes with extra storage containers and utensils, along with the original Prepdeck system.
For those who don't have the counter or fridge space to store the original Prepdeck, which is a little over 21 inches long, the company debuted a mini version measuring 18 inches in length during the summer of 2022. The brand also released products including the Chop'r, which serves as a hand-free mini food processor, in early 2022. The current Prepdeck website now houses many additional kitchen products, including a bamboo knife block and specialized baking sheets with individualized silicone containers. In short, the business is thriving.
Eburne has also taken on a new business empowering start-up companies by helping them seek out exemplary employees. Even though Eburne walked away from "Shark Tank" without the deal he hoped for, he's been able to keep his organizational kitchen product a success, serving those looking to establish a system for everyday meal preparation.
