Woman Lights Roommate On Fire Over Spaghetti
Anyone who has lived with roommates knows the annoyance of having one's food disappear from the refrigerator, but one Florida woman allegedly responded to that annoyance in a completely inappropriate way this week and lit her roommate on fire over a missing plate of spaghetti.
According to Bay News 9, Melissa Dawn Sellers had been drinking with her roommate and some other friends on Wednesday evening when the two got in an argument. Witnesses reportedly said Sellers was enraged because her roommate, Carlos Ortiz Jr., had thrown away a leftover dish of spaghetti and meatballs. Sellers reportedly threw nail polish remover all over Ortiz and lit him on fire.
"She was setting little objects on fire, then that turned into pouring nail polish remover all over him, and then all of a sudden, the lighter sparked and he lit on fire," said Ines Causevic, who was in the house at the time. "When he got up, his face was like melting off, it was pink and sore. His lips were burning."
Ortiz was taken to the hospital and was listed as being in critical condition. Sellers left before the police arrived, but eventually came back to the house and was promptly arrested and charged with aggravated battery. Ortiz had reportedly taken Sellers in after she was evicted from her previous residence.
