Veggie Lovers Unite On Dole's Salad Circle
If you're one to Tweet or Instagram a picture of the salad creation you're eating, a new salad-only social network may be the place for you.
Dole's newly launched Salad Circle gives those in love with mixed greens a forum to share recipes, get ideas for entertaining with salads, and learn from farmers, chefs, and dietitians about their beloved leafy greens. The new web site comes from Dole's "Salad'tude" initiative to encourage healthy eats. So far, Dole's Facebook page dedicated to salads has gained more than 310,000 fans.
The Dole Salad Circle isn't just about salad recipes, says Chris Mayhew, Dole Fresh Vegetables marketing director. "Think of it as a living cookbook of meal and entertaining ideas," she wrote in an email. "Our goal is for this destination to become the public's go-to source and interactive forum for anything and everything related to salad. It's an interactive resource that allows salad lovers to share their favorite recipes with each other and find inspiration for their next salad masterpiece."
The community includes tips from chefs and food/lifestyle bloggers on throwing the perfect "salad celebrations," and members can post their own photos and recipes from parties.
Celebrtities are also participating in the salad craze. Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman shares two recipes (including her Caesar salad with pesto tofu) on the site, along with a sweepstakes to dine with her and four friends in Monterey, Calif.
The Salad Circle is free to join and open for "Saladistas" (yes, it's real) to connect.
