USDA To Start Tweeting Food Recalls
Since most people get their breaking news from Twitter these days, the U.S. Department of Agriculture figured the best way to spread news about recalls is to tweet it.
State-specific food safety alerts for meat, poultry, and egg products will be tweeted using a state's two-letter abbreviation, followed by an "FSISAlert." California alerts will look like "CA_FSISALERT," etc.
AP reports that the USDA will also be tweeting information about protecting food in addition to food recalls, so the Twitter world can be the first to freak out over the next listeria scare (fingers crossed it doesn't happen). Follow USDA on Twitter here.
