The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa Provides Guests An Upscale Cozy Hideaway

A visit to Vancouver's Wedgewood Hotel & Spa is like taking a vacation to a rich aunt's European country house, but one that is located in the middle of downtown Vancouver.

Within walking distance of the boutique 83-room hotel are art galleries, wonderful shopping, charming restaurants and coffee shops. Additionally, The hotel is located in close proximity to Stanley Park, False Creek, Gastown and English Bay.

I loved everything about this boutique hotel the minute I walked into the charming lobby. Met with a roaring fireplace, Old World antique furniture and a very hospitable staff, I ventured to one of several penthouses for my weekend stay.

My beautiful suite included a gorgeous living room with original artwork, fresh flowers, a fireplace, large flat screen television, live plants, a large antique wood desk and a welcome gift of champagne and truffles.

The living room led to a huge Italian marble bathroom with a big shower and Jacuzzi tub with shutters opening to the bedroom. The bedroom included a big comfy king bed with soft sheets, a love seat, flat screen television and a large wooden headboard. Both the bedroom and the living room featured sliding glass doors leading to an enormous balcony with beautiful downtown views, large potted trees, a table, chairs and sofa seating.

Each evening I found freshly baked cookies after the turndown service.

Downstairs, Bacchus restaurant provides an intimate romantic atmosphere with red velvet coaches and chairs in the lounge area and deep beige and gold booths and tables in the formal dining area. Huge fresh floral displays run throughout the space. Standout dishes include poached diver scallops with buttermilk dressing, ahi tuna crudo, truffle and wild mushroom risotto, roasted sablefish, beef tenderloin with mushrooms, sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate raspberry bar.

The Piano Bar offers a great destination for pre and post dinner cocktails.

The hotel also houses a spa featuring Epicurean skin products with all natural ingredients, a fitness center and a Eucalyptus steam room
