Taste Test: Whole Foods Tandoori Chicken Samosas
There are lots of goodies to be found in the frozen-foods aisle at your local Whole Foods, but the Tandoori Chicken Samosas are real winners. They're flavorful, crispy, and are great as both an appetizer and a meal.
The little samosas come eight to an order, and require about 15 minutes in the oven, flipping halfway through. The final product is golden brown and crispy, and the filling of shredded chicken, onion, yogurt, garam masala, lemon juice, ginger, garlic, and cilantro closely resembles the flavors you'll find at your favorite Indian restaurant. The fact that it's all shredded almost gives it the consistency of empanada filling, and we'd certainly buy that empanada. There's just the right amount of spiciness, and it's full of complex Indian flavors.
The crust is made with wheat flour, and will certainly get crispier if you deep-fry instead of bake them, but not many people will be deep-frying these, most likely. There isn't a deep crunch to these, but the filling is so tasty that you won't even notice.
These are a very solid choice if you're browsing through the frozen-food section at Whole Foods. Your guests will thank you!
