You've Likely Been Storing Blueberries Wrong This Whole Time
By Chase Shustack
Blueberries tend to spoil quickly because of their high moisture content, so for proper moisture and temperature control, you need to tweak the way you store them in the fridge.
Before choosing a carton of blueberries, look for any wilted or fuzzy berries, which indicate the rest will spoil soon. Ensure the berries are clean and relatively fresh.
Avoid rinsing your blueberries first. When you’re ready to store them, place a paper towel underneath to soak up moisture and prevent liquid from pooling at the bottom.
Place your carton of blueberries on a shelf in the fridge instead of the crisper drawer so that the circulating air helps to keep the berries fresh.
It’s also important to consider the container you store the blueberries in. Avoid tight or sealed containers, which can trap moisture and encourage mold growth.
