Yes, You Could 'Bake' A Cake In An Air Fryer
By Elizabeth Thorn
Although it might seem surprising, you can bake a single-layer cake or a small batch of cupcakes in your air fryer with the right ingredients.
King Arthur Baking suggests using a recipe with minimal ingredients and avoiding oil or butter-based cakes. However, it depends on your air fryer and other ingredients.
For the best results, choose the right pan for your air fryer. Most can accommodate an 8-inch round pan since they're smaller and bake cakes quicker and more evenly.
If it has one, set your air fryer to its bake cycle to evenly bake the cake and stop its crust from over-browning, or start with a lower temperature required for a regular oven.
If you can't get the center baked fully without burning the crust, drape aluminum foil over the top once browned.
You can also top your cake with nuts or caramel to allow for additional baking time without further browning the crust. If the cake comes out too dry, use a cake soak.
While air fryers might seem unconventional, they are faster and more convenient than conventional ovens since they can bake some cakes in as little as 25 minutes.
