Why Was Coca-Cola's Five Alive Drink Halted In The US?
By Arianna Endicott
Throughout the years, many soft drinks have come and gone. Coca-Cola's Five Alive is one such product, and its disappearance from store shelves is a mystery.
Introduced in 1978, the citrus drink combined orange, lemon, grapefruit, lime, and tangerine flavors into one drink. Production ceased sometime in the 1990s in the United States.
The Coca-Cola Company has never announced why the drink was discontinued. Some theorize it may have been due to its 1994 release of the Fruitopia brand of fruit-flavored drinks.
Five Alive can still be found in countries like Canada and Nigeria. Also, select U.S. grocery stores still carry the frozen concentrate.
Additionally, Amazon sells liter-sized containers and juice boxes. The cause of its U.S. demise may be unknown, but it's nice to know that Five Alive is flourishing elsewhere.
