Why Kellogg's Legendary Yogos Were Discontinued
By Elias Nash
Kellogg's Yogos was first released in 2005, and these bite-sized balls of fruit-flavored candy coated in a crunchy yogurt shell quickly became an icon of the mid-2000s snack scene.
However, after only five years, this popular snack vanished from stores, and it seems that concerns about the snack's health impacts could have been its undoing.
Yogos won over customers, but when the CDC drew attention to the American obesity epidemic, food products like Yogos faced scrutiny over their nutritional content.
While the American Heart Association recommends no more than 25 to 36 grams of added sugar per day, a single serving of Kellogg's Yogos contained 15 grams of sugar.
Kellogg's was criticized for allowing unhealthy amounts of sugar, and after a 2010 The New York Times article specifically called out Yogos, the food item was gone.
