What Actually Goes Into Taco Bell's Iconic Red Sauce?
By Madalyn Mackarey
Taco Bell is famous for serving burritos, quesadillas, Crunchwrap Supremes, and so much more, but fans are always captivated by their red sauce, known as "Border Sauce."
These hot sauces come in mini packets with fun sayings. Per Taco Bell's ingredient statements, the sauce is made from a base of tomato puree.
Along with tomato puree, the sauce's smokiness comes from salt, chili spices, paprika, minced onion, garlic powder, chili powder, jalapeños, and a dash of sugar.
There are preservatives like potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate (P), and maltodextrin to stay fresh. There are four spice packets to choose from: Mild, Hot, Fire, and Diablo.
The Fire and Diablo sauces also include an extra ingredient, xanthan gum, which is a frequently used thickening agent.
