The Cracker Barrel Mini-Store Concept That Didn't Work Out
By Chase Shustack
In 1994, Cracker Barrel debuted the “Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Corner Market,” a general store that served carry-out food. Unfortunately, they all closed by 1997.
Cracker Barrel president Ron Magruder said these closings allowed the company to focus on their “core themes” like Southern hospitality and traditional meals in a country setting.
In 2016, Cracker Barrel tried another spinoff known as “Holler and Dash,” a restaurant limited to serving only breakfast and lunch served in a more “trendy” setting.
Like its earlier counterpart, Holler and Dash just wasn’t right for Cracker Barrel. It seems that Cracker Barrel just isn’t the company that should focus on a spin-off.
