Starbucks Announces Bonus Star Benefit For Packaged Coffee

Starbucks Rewards members will now be able to earn bonus Stars by purchasing any Starbucks packaged coffee, either through select retail suppliers or through the online Starbucks store.  Qualifying purchases include Starbucks VIA Ready Brew, K-Cup Packs, and Verismo Pods.

Any purchase of these packaged coffees will earn a bonus Star in addition to the Star earned just by purchasing a Starbucks item.

In select retail stores, packaged Starbucks coffee will be marked with Star codes, which Rewards members can log through their Starbucks account. Currently, Starbucks members with five Stars get benefits like free birthday drinks, free refills on coffee and tea, and exclusive member-only offers. Members who make it to 30 Stars earn the same benefits, plus free drink or food rewards every 12 Stars, and a personalized Gold Card.

The bonus stars are the newest move from Starbucks to increase customer engagement with its iPhone app. Starbucks' recent updates to the iOS app include the 'Shake to Pay' and digital tipping options.
