- a loaf of high-quality white bread that has not been sliced
- a stick of salted butter, softened
- Slice the loaf into 3/4-inch slices.
- Liberally butter the slices on both sides.
- Heat a griddle to medium-high heat and toast the slices about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Serve with chicken-fried steak, fried chicken or any smothered gravy dish.
