- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 4 medium onions, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 ten one-and-a-half-ounce cans beef broth
- 2 cup water
- croutons, for serving
- grated parmigiano-reggiano or gruyere cheese, for serving
- Making french onion soup with a slow cooker:
- Preheat unit on range top heating unit over medium heat for 2 minutes and melt butter.
- Add onions and saute for 15 to 20 minutes or until medium brown. Remove from heat and sprinkle with flour. Add beef broth and water, mix well.
- Place unit on base and simmer, covered, at Setting No. 4 for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Keep warm at Setting No. 1. To serve, add croutons and sprinkle with cheese.
