Ingredients
- 2 1/2 pound tart apples
- 2 tablespoon apple juice
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick cold butter, diced
Directions
- Preheat an oil-less turkey fryer. (Preferably Char-Broil’s The Big Easy® oil-less turkey fryer)
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thick chunks. Add cut apples to a bowl and combine with apple juice, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Mix thoroughly and reserve.
- Combine oatmeal, all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and diced cold butter in another bowl to create a crumble topping.
- Using a pastry cutter or two forks, combine topping ingredients thoroughly until the butter is the size of peas.
- Pack the apples tightly in a disposable aluminum loaf pan and top with the crumble mixture, pressing down firmly.
- Cover the pan with foil and put in fryer basket. Lower the basket into fryer and cook for 30 minutes, with lid on.
- Raise the basket and carefully remove the foil. Lower the apple crisp back down into fryer and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
