Product Review: Trader Joe's Organic Popcorn With Olive Oil
There's something to be said for freshly popped popcorn, hot from the microwave (or the stove, if you're a purist.) But how many times have you wound up accidentally scorching the kernels, or tearing into a bag only to be disappointed by the flavorless puffs?
It's for these reasons that pre-popped popcorn in a bag is still in demand. When it's done right, it's a much better option than artery-clogging movie theater popcorn and the underwhelming microwave variety. And Trader Joe's has done it right yet again.
In fact, their Organic Popcorn with Olive Oil might just be the perfect popcorn. The kernels are popped to perfection, light but slightly chewy, and coated in just the right amount of olive oil, which gives them a more satisfying weight and a fuller flavor. It's nothing like the chemical, cloying quality of other flavored, pre-popped popcorn. This snack is so good, it tastes like it's been sprinkled with a little bit of some sort of cheese (it hasn't). But impressive flavor doesn't mean sacrificing nutrition; at just 130 calories for 2 cups, it still makes for a filling, healthy snack.
In the end, popcorn is popcorn. But if you're the type of snacker who'd rather dive right in than count the seconds between the pops in the microwave, head to Trader Joe's for some quality no-cook popcorn.
