Watch The Trailer For Vice's Andy Ricker Documentary
Vice finally decided to go full throttle and create a full-on documentary inspired by their Munchies food show, their first one focusing on Andy Ricker of Pok Pok.
Titled Farang, which is the Thai word for "white foreigner," Ricker's nickname in Thailand, the documentary explores Ricker's relationship with Thailand, starting with his first trip backpacking through the country in 1987. The fascination eventually grew to an obsession, the story goes, which resulted in Pok Pok, Sen Yai, and Pok Pok NY, among other restaurants.
You have Ricker talking about his love for Thailand's culture, Stumptown Coffee founder Duane Sorenson talking about the first time he met Ricker when Ricker was painting houses, and Thai expats marvelling at the authentic dishes at Pok Pok. Watch the trailer below, where Ricker travels from Portland, Ore., to New York to Chiang Mai, opening Sen Yai and showcasing his favorite Thai eats. Farang will be released in 2014.
