Nando's Drops Dictator Ad
Nando's, the chicken joint well known for irreverant advertisements, released their "Last Dictator Standing" ad last week and the reaction has been crazy enough to halt the commercial's run.
The ad, which features a Mugabe doppelganger as the last, lonely dictator, prompted Mugabe supporters to call for a boycott and even threaten managers, staff, and customers. Under Zimbabwe law, it is an offense to insult Mugabe.
Nando's announced its decision to stop airing the commercial in South Africa, saying, "We feel strongly that this is the prudent step to take in a volatile climate and believe that no TV commercial is worth risking the safety of Nando's staff and customers."
