McCoy's 20-Cent Scandal And 5 More Headline-Making Tips
It's barely the beginning of the season, and Philadelphia Eagle LeSean McCoy has already stirred up some controversy; he left a (now infamous) meager 20-cent tip on a meal he received at popular Philadelphia restaurant, PYT. It elicited an angry letter from the owner, who said he was very disappointed, as an Eagles fan, at the "Two dimes from an insulting multimillionaire." Charlie Sheen even stepped in to say that he would donate a $1,000 "tip" to PYT to make up for the offending runningback. McCoy has defended himself saying that he actually did receive poor service at the restaurant.
Whichever side you're on, McCoy's meager show of gratuity is hardly the first ridiculous tip — big or small — to make headlines. Take for instance, Tips for Jesus, the organization that randomly leaves large (usually $1,000 worth) tips for unsuspecting servers.
Sometimes the spotlight is turned to the wait staff themselves, like the waitress who claimed that she was a victim of discrimination by a family who refused to give her a tip because of her sexuality. Turns out the whole thing was a hoax, and the waitress was fired.
We've rounded up some more of our favorite tipping incidents, from the absurd and the downright rude to the heart-wrenching.
