Mario Batali, Pat LaFrieda To Live Off $1.48 A Meal
If you've ever cursed Mario Batali for those hefty Del Posto bills, perhaps you can rest easy knowing that this week, he'll be living off $31 for food.
For one week only, Batali and his family are trying out the food stamp budget to bring awareness to the Food Bank for New York City's Food Stamp Challenge.
The challenge limits participants to a food budget of $31 per person per week or just $1.48 a meal.
"For one week, walk in someone else's shoes. Knowledge is power, and by trying to understand what our friends and neighbors are going through, we will be better equipped to find solutions," Batali said in a press release.
Also on the participants list? Pat LaFrieda, New York City butcher at large, as well as Food Bank CEO Margarette Purvis. We imagine this week's menu will be full of rice and beans.
