Jersey Mike's Eyes The Twin Cities
Twin Cities, get ready for more subs. Jersey Mike's, a East Coast-style sub sandwich chain that started at the Jersey Shore, plans to open stores in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area. The chain aims to open ten stores next year and eventually have fifty locations in the area, Minneapolis franchisee John Griparis told Star Tribune.
Peter Cancro, the CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems Inc., started franchising the sandwich joint in 1987. He changed the original name "Mike's Subs" to the "Jersey Mike's Subs" at that point, but the taste of the authentic subs stayed the same. There are over 600 locations now, with plenty more in the works.
The sandwich shop in Blaine recently opened on June 21st. The second most recent grand opening was in Woodbury on May 1st. The Coon Rapids and St. Anthony Village stores make up a total of four Jersey Mike's Subs in the Twin Cities area. There are also two additional locations in Mankato, south of the Minneapolis area.
By next year, more people will have access to the chain's "Jersey Shore's Favorite," an in-store baked sandwich with provolone, ham, and capicola.
