This Rare Iridescent Lobster Is The Prettiest Shellfish Ever
A Maine fisherman just caught the most unusual lobster of his career, and it's actually really pretty.
According to Yahoo News, longtime lobsterman Alex Todd of Chebeague Island caught a stunning and extremely rare "iridescent" lobster off the coast of Maine last week. It was pale and translucent, and it looked shimmery.
This kind of lobster is incredibly rare. According to the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association, where Todd shared a photo of his lobster, it probably suffered from a genetic condition that gives it a partial loss of pigment. A total loss of pigment would have made the lobster albino, and the partial loss gave it hints of blue in its shell and eyes.

"I've never seen a white one. This one was translucent with just a hint of blue in it," said Todd, who is a 10th-generation who has been licensed to catch lobsters since he was six years old.
"It was really different and really cool," he said.
Todd said it was a female lobster marked for carrying egg, and he released it back into the ocean after taking a picture of it.
"Even if it had been male, it's an oddity enough that, why cook it for a $4 lobster?" he said.
