Italian Ice Cream Maker Creates Hemp Gelato
An Italian ice cream parlor decided to put together a Bob Marley tribute ice cream this year, and they say the hemp-flavored gelato they created is both tasty and nutritious, but it will not get anybody high.
According to The Local, the ice cream parlor in a resort town in Liguria decided to team up with a local hemp organization to produce an ice cream that would have hemp's purported health benefits, which according to the Canapa Liguria include high amounts of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
The ice cream is named after Bob Marley and is expected to be in full production and on sale before the end of the year. The ice cream parlor is advertising it with the tag line, ""it tastes good and it does good," citing the purported health benefits of the peeled hemp seeds that flavor the ice cream.
According to the producers, the ice cream will have "beneficial properties due to the high presence of fatty acids, which make it a valuable way to fight and prevent different ailments including arteriosclerosis, cholesterol, osteoarthritis, respiratory disorders, eczema and acne."
That's a lot of health benefits to attribute to an ice cream cone, but the makers also say it is very tasty. Hemp is related to cannabis, but lacks the active compounds in marijuana that get people high, so the ice cream might have fatty acids, but it will not have any mind-altering effects beyond the ability to create a normal ice cream headache if eaten too fast.
