Food Runner Is Now The Largest Food Delivery Business In Southeast Asia
As it turns out, Americans aren't the only ones who enjoy online delivery.
Southeast Asian rebate network DealGuru has announced the formation of Food Runner, an online food delivery service akin to Seamless, according to the press release.
As the operator of Room Service Deliveries, Food Runner is the number one food delivery service in Singapore and Malaysia. With 50,000 registered users and millions of dollars in orders annually, the industry is hoping to expand to other Southeast Asian markets.
CEO of Food Runner Lance Frey justifies the split by saying that the separation will allow for more flexibility within the market.
In Southeast Asia, a growing population is matched by its growing economy, with almost 600 million people as potential customers for Food Runner.
Rebate Networks Managing Director Michael Brehm is excited about the venture. "We know Southeast Asia well, holding several investments there. It is an area of vast opportunity, including in the food delivery business. By 2015, we project the SEA food delivery market to be worth US $390 million, driven by consumer demand, rising incomes, and continued urbanization."
The industry hopes to mirror United States' based Seamless, the online food delivery service that processed over $400 million in orders and had over 1 million registered users in 2011.
