The Top Foods At The Texas State Fair Might Give You A Heart Attack

Drum roll please! The State Fair of Texas has announced the winners of their annual Big Tex Choice Awards. The "Best Taste – Sweet" category goes to Clint Probst's Gulf Coast Fish Bowl, while Tom Grace's Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger took both the "Best Taste – Savory" and "Most Creative" prizes.

According to a press release, it's Probst's ninth year at the State Fair of Texas, and his eighth time in the semifinals. This year's creation — a Gulf Coast Fish Bowl — is grounded with Nerds candy and filled with a blue tropical-flavored alcoholic punch. The fruity beverage is topped off with ice and Swedish Fish and garnished with pineapple.

In addition to 28 years of experience as a concessionaire, Grace is also no stranger to the fairgrounds: 2017 marked his second year in the finals and his first year winning a title. His Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger begins with two funnel cakes for buns that are "fried to a golden crunch." The first funnel is topped with a burger patty, a large helping of bacon, and gooey queso. It is completed with the top funnel bun and dusted with powdered sugar.

The two champs beat out other fatty foods including deep-fried chicken noodle soup, deep-fried fruit loops, a tamale doughnut, and a lobster and grilled steak combo stuffed inside a buttery, cheesy, garlic potato. Wow! You can see the whole list: here.
