Safeway Supermarket Employee Beaten With Baguette By Irate Customer

A man in California has been arrested after allegedly beating a grocery store employee with a baguette.

According to SF Gate, 39-year-old Adam Kowarsh entered a Safeway Supermarket in Fremont "screaming and yelling" around midnight on Sept. 17. Kowarsh was asked to pay for his items and leave, but after one employee made an attempt to calm him, he grabbed a loaf of French bread and struck the worker multiple times in the face.

"A male suspect was pushing and hitting an employee of a grocery store multiple times with a load of French bread," police said in a statement. "While the victim did not sustain major injuries, he wanted to press charges."

When officers arrived, they urged Kowarsh to leave the store's property. Instead, he continued to yell and eventually was taken away in handcuffs and booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of battery and violation of probation. Kowarsh is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Sept. 27, and his bail is set at $5,000.
