Massachusetts Burger King Posts Sign Allowing Only 'One Overdose' Before Banning Customers

A Burger King in Worcester, Massachusetts, is under fire after a staffer allegedly posted a sign behind the counter warning customers about the amount of times they're "allowed" to overdose on drugs before being barred from the restaurant.

"You are only allowed one overdose and then you are banned from this establishment," the printer-paper flyer read. The sign has since been removed.

According to MassLive.com, there were nine reported incidents at the restaurant between September 1, 2016, and September 1, 2017, making the location one of the city's most frequent spots for drug users to overdose.

A spokesperson for Burger King told a CBS affiliate in Boston that an investigation has been launched into the incident, adding, "The actions of this Team Member were an isolated incident and do not reflect the Burger King brand values or the values of the Franchisee, who independently owns and operates this restaurant. The Franchisee is investigating this incident thoroughly and will take the actions they believe are appropriate."

Some Twitter users don't have an issue with the message.

"That's an excellent sign. Overdose at home and don't embarrass yourself publicly. Geez," @Weknowwho11 said.

"That seems completely reasonable to me," @TheRealMaloof wrote.

"I don't blame the manager. I'm sick of these junkies causing a burden on society," @ProudAm781 said.

Others seem to be glad it was taken down.

"Having just lost a loved one to an overdose. Not funny!" @DebraYo77227875 said.

"I am surprised the sign 'allowed' one overdose! Are people simply mad?!?!" @TylerBarton27 asked.

"Assuming I'd eat at Burger King, if I saw a sign like that, I'd be inclined to find someplace else to dine," @TheRealJonnyD said.
