Kid In Canada Calls 911 Twice To Tell Police He Hates Salad

Salad isn't any kid's favorite meal, but it's not worth calling the police over. Last week, a 12-year-old boy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, disagreed, calling the Royal Canadian Mounted Police twice to complain about the leafy side dish. In the first phone call, the boy said his guardian had made a salad he didn't like, and the second time, he called to check on when the police would arrive and to again diss the salad.

(It's not known which ingredients were offensive in the salad.)

The RCMP actually did show up, but instead of rescuing the child from his salad, they decided there was another issue that required a-dressing: The Mounties are asking citizens not to tie up emergency numbers with petty complaints.

"While many can relate to the dislike of a salad at times, this raises a more important issue that warrants discussion at all ages," RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said in a press release. "The improper use of 911 is an issue with all age groups and it ties up valuable resources, preventing emergency first responders from dealing with real emergencies."

The police are hoping parents will use the humorous event to have a discussion with children about the real use of 911.

"This has garnished international attention with several media outlets from several countries still inquiring about the release," Hutchinson told The Daily Meal in an email. "It has brought some positive humor while still addressing a serious topic. Not often we get to report on topics and find humor in it. So I can admit I've enjoyed this one. As well, I've adjusted what I put in my salad every day for lunch and have found myself enjoying salads again."
