KFC's New Cinnabon Dessert Biscuit Is Only $1
KFC has been on its grind. In the last year or so, we've seen pickle-fried, hot honey and Cheetos fried chicken — plus not one but two rounds of special-release chicken and waffles. People! Love! KFC! Well guess what? This time, the chain is aiming at fast food fanatics with a sweet tooth, because KFC and Cinnabon made a dessert biscuit baby.
25 Childhood Desserts You Forgot Existed
The Cinnabon Dessert Biscuit is a regular KFC biscuit covered in Cinnabon's cinnamon brown sugar glaze and cream cheese frosting. Customers can get four for free with the purchase of any 10-piece meal or larger from April 29 through June 30 (or while supplies last). They can also be purchased a la carte for $1 each or $3 for four. Sounds like a steal — but are they any good?
Thanks to our friends at KFC, Daily Meal staffers were able to sample the new frankenfection before it was made available to the public. Overall, we thought they were fine and probably worth your dollar, but we weren't quite sure the ingredients melded together as well as we had hoped they would.
"This is cool if you are the sort of person who would eat a biscuit and think, 'I wish this were stickier,'" one editor said. "But it's basically KFC's normal, OK-tasting biscuit topped with Toaster Strudel icing and slathered in cinnamon syrup. They could just offer packets of icing and syrup at the condiment stand and produce the same effect."
To be transparent, most of us love KFC biscuits. They're delightful on their own or with a pat of butter, but not so much in this scenario. Regular cinnamon buns are amazing because the flavor is consistent all around, inside and out. There is no cinnamon inside this KFC biscuit. You get the glaze and frosting on top, and then it stops abruptly once you sink your teeth in. From then on, you experience bready butteriness, which pales in comparison to the super sweet stuff that enticed you in the first place.
Nonetheless, we do appreciate the cream cheese drizzle. It's nostalgic of younger years at breakfast when we'd squeeze the Toaster Strudel frosting packet in our mouths instead of saving it for the pastry itself. Kids. We wouldn't quite call this dessert, but for just $1 (or free if you get the 10-piece deal), it's worth it. I mean, those four quarters are probably just sitting at the bottom of your cup holder anyway.
KFC designed this dessert promotion for Mother's Day — don't panic, it's not until May 12 — and for some reason the chain thinks your mom also wants a naughty glimpse at the Chippendales, who have ever so appropriately been renamed the Chickendales. The chain made a slightly uncomfortable teaser video for the partnership featuring one absolutely ripped Colonel Sanders and his washboard ab buddies doing a little dance while murmuring things like, "I hear you're the best mom in the world," and "I love you, Mom."
Hey, if that's what your mom is into, good for her. You can even take it a step further and make a personalized video for her by going to chickendales.com. If you'd rather not expose your mom to these Magic Mike wannabes, maybe you could just bring her out to eat at any of these chain restaurants with the best Mother's Day deals.
