Celebrate Mom While Helping New Yorkers In Need This Mother's Day
This Mother's Day, want to treat Mom to a fabulous meal, while giving back to the community? This year, make brunch plans that will not only be special for Mom, but also help feed the nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers who face hunger every day.
"City Harvest pioneered food rescue alongside the restaurant community in 1982," said Jilly Stephens, executive director of City Harvest. "...this thoughtful and creative group has continued to support our hunger relief work by leading cooking demonstrations at our Mobile Markets, offering tastings at fundraising events, and making special dishes for us to pick up and deliver to soup kitchens and food pantries across the five boroughs. By dining at these restaurants we can show our appreciation for all that the restaurant community does to help City Harvest fight hunger in New York City."
These eateries are continually striving to stop food waste and increase the quality, and quantity, of food donations to less fortunate communities by partnering with City Harvest. In other words, these restaurants donate surplus ingredients or meals to this organization, or they donate a portion of their proceeds. City Harvest is the first food rescue organization that works with the city's leading chefs to fight food insecurity. Pretty awesome.
