Avocado Pizza Graces Menu Of Manhattan's Kola House
If you're like most people, you love avocados. You mash them into guacamole, you eat them for dessert, and sometimes you even put your lattes in them — and lately, you very likely put them on your toast. Chef Jon Feshan, who runs Kola House in New York City's Meatpacking District (in a space designed by rocker Lenny Kravitz), is serving up his own spin on this hot food trend.
Kola House's avocado pizza ($18) begins with the dough, a homemade blend of Persian pita and French baguette. Then, it's loaded with sliced avocado, red onion, cilantro salsa, and sunflower seeds and garnished with finishing touches of cilantro and radish.
"It's a good dish because right now we have so many requests for people being vegan or gluten-free, or just wanting to eat healthier," Feshan told Time. The pie is vegan because the avocado serves as a stand-in for cheese.
The pies come in limited quantity, though. Only 12 are available per night, and they usually sell out.
