Spirited Side Trips: Labor Day
Next Monday marks the unofficial end of summer, and millions of Americans will be hitting the road for the Labor Day weekend.
And if you're going away for the holiday, in addition to swimming, shopping, and relaxing, we suggest you plan a side trip to visit a craft distillery. While there are plenty of brands that have opened in and around big cities, there are also a number near traditional vacation spots across the country. These companies produce a range of delicious spirits and provide amenities including tours, stores, and, of course, tasting rooms. (A carefully selected bottle makes an ideal host gift or a tasty souvenir, too.)
From New York's Hamptons and Delaware's Rehoboth Beach to the Hawaiian island of Kauai, we've found lots of facilities for you to check out. Headed somewhere else? Consult the American Distilling Institute's handy map, which offers listings in 47 states as well as Canada.
No matter where you are celebrating, we hope you have a spirited long weekend!
Some of these distilleries have set tour schedules, while others are by appointment only. Please call ahead before visiting.
