Doughnut Banh Mi Truck Wheels Into DC

Doughnuts and banh mi are great on their own, but together they are even better.

The Washington, D.C.-based food truck PhoWheels has announced on their Facebook page that they will be collaborating with the renowned Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken to create the Astro Doughnut Banh Mi.

This brainchild sandwich of Astro Doughnuts' chef Gehring and PhoWheels features Astro's savory doughnut, mixed with bacon, cheddar and chives. The savory doughnut is a break from Gehring's usual sweet flavors, such as salted caramel and s'mores.

The banh mi fillings consist of a choice of five-spice maple-glazed pork belly, soy garlic chicken, or mushroom-onion tofu, plus pickled radish and carrots, cilantro, cucumbers, and truffle aioli, according to Eater DC. These are the same fillings as their signature banh mi, sans the usual French baguette or croissant.

The Astro Doughnut Banh Mi will only be available until the end of September and is available for $8. Follow PhoWheels on Twitter for location updates.
