Dominique Ansel Bakery Reopens With Special 'Rocky' Cronut
After being closed for the three days by the Department of Health, Dominque Ansel Bakery is open for business again as of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8th. Shortly after a customer submitted video footage of a mouse on the bakery floor to Gothamist last Thursday, the DOH arrived and shut down the bakery after determining there was a "severe mouse infestation" despite awarding the establishment an "A" rating last fall.
After a stressful weekend during which Ansel decried the way in which his bakery was targeted and the "harm and damages to an honest, small business," the Soho bakery passed its re-inspection on Monday, April 8th.
In celebration, Dominque Ansel posted a photo of the full bakery staff on Facebook, along with a lengthy message addressing the media attention, and thanking loyal customers for their support. The message read, in part:
"Looking forward, our hope is that honest, hard-working businesses should not have to face cruel and sensationalized attacks that are not framed in the proper context. And systems should not be abused to single-out any one business over another. We urge our customers to seek deeper details and answers before jumping to conclusions."
For Monday only, the bakery will serve a victory "Rocky Balboa" Cronut — a black Cronut with a gold star on top.
