'The Chew' Cast Goes On 'The View,' Battles It Out With Whoopi And Crew
We're always secretly confused when our daytime talk show hosts cross over; it's sort of like seeing your high school teachers in the grocery store when you were 17, or your boss at a bar. Something just doesn't feel right about it.
But this one somehow worked; The Chew dropped by The View in today's show, launching the first ever Chew View Cook-Off by pairing up Chew cooks with View co-hosts to make one-pot dishes. Michael Symon pairs off with Joy Behar to make meatballs (with plenty of meatball jokes, obviously), while Mario Batali and Whoopi Goldberg team up for sloppy Joe's. Meanwhile, Carla Hall and Sherri Shepherd teamed off, as well as Daphne Oz and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. "Mario and Whoopi are friends, and we have our View counterparts, so it makes it really easy," Hall told us after the taping.
This isn't the first time The View and The Chew have crossed over; last Halloween The Chew crew dressed up as the cast of The View for giggles, only to be visited by the ladies themselves. Whether the Chew View Cook-Off will become a regular thing has yet to be seen, but the cast obviously wants it. "I think the show went well, but it's definitely up to The View people," Batali told us in an email. "They drive the boat."
And if that doesn't work, Hall has plans to do a segment with Shepherd in the future, anyways. "I would love to do a segment with Sherri at her house, because I've been threatening to go to her house and teach her how to cook," Hall said. "I would start with something I know she's going to make... Maybe a lighter version of a smothered chicken or something like that."
Watch The Chew cast get competitive in today's episode below, but don't expect The Chew to get too competitive. "We do cooking competitions all the time, so we don't take it seriously at all," Symon told us after the taping. "As Mario likes to say, if it's not a competition, can I win?"
