Chefs At Home: Ilan Hall's Los Angeles Home
Ilan Hall may have made his name in Los Angeles, heading up downtown restaurant The Gorbals, winning Top Chef season two, and now, hosting his own show Knife Fight on the new Esquire network. But the chef, originally from the East Coast, is looking to move back to New York.
"I just feel like raising my son in a place that's more accessible to a lot of culture, and I miss the restaurant culture in New York," Hall told us when we visited him at his Los Angeles home. "Here, you just can't open a nice little place in a nice little neighborhood. In New York, the odds are in your favor."
Of course, that doesn't mean he won't be enjoying his time in Los Angeles while he can; the chef recently moved out to Highland Park, where there are more trees and less highways, more greens to forage in the backyard. It works out perfectly for him and his toddler, Theo.
Check out Hall's wide-windowed, toy-strewn, party-ready house in our slideshow, before he decides to pick up and move away.
Knife Fight premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. CT on the new Esquire network, replacing the Style Network.
