Cheerios Ad Starring Interracial Family Sparks Hatred
Some days it's strange to believe we live in 2013; a new (and very adorable) Cheerios ad starring an interracial family has unearthed a huge population of segregationists and bigots, who are all telling the world how awful it is.
Since the outrage, Cheerios has disabled comments on their advertisement (below), although thankfully they have kept it published. Commenters have reportedly called the commercial an "abomination", while others raged over on reddit; "F*ck this multiculturalism propaganda bullsh*t," one said.
Cheerios isn't the first to feature an interracial family; a Volkswagen commercial featured an interracial family with a daughter last year.
Cheerios has released a statement, Gawker reports, saying, "Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all." And on the bright side, plenty of supporters have headed over to Facebook to show their support. While YouTube comments have been disabled, the commentary is still ongoing over on reddit and Facebook. All of this over cereal.
