Celebrity Chef Lends Culinary Craft To Cruise Liner
Celebrity chef and Food Network frequenter Geoffrey Zakarian is debuting his first culinary foray into fine cruise ship dining with the opening of Ocean Blue restaurant, set to launch on Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ship, Norwegian Breakaway.
Ocean Blue will consist of three venues, including its upscale dining room space and the more casual Ocean Blue on The Waterfront and The Raw Bar, all of which feature seafood dining.
Each spot hosts a signature menu created by Zakarian that will serve up savory seafood like steak tartare-inspired crudos, crustaceans, oysters, and an array of other shellfish, paired with a selection of wine and cocktails.
"It is an unbelievably exciting prospect to create a concept for such a groundbreaking ship. I am nostalgic at heart, so the thought of making a modern experience that harkens to the age of steamship travel is just terrific," said Zakarian.
Zakarian will also host periodic cooking demonstrations, meet-and-greets with cruise ship passengers, and exclusive culinary experiences for select groups.
Norwegian Breakaway will set sail from its home port in New York City in May 2013 and offer summer getaways to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Florida, and the Southern Caribbean. Other restaurants on the cruise ship include Le Bistro French Restaurant and Cagney's Steakhouse.
