In the spirit of the upcoming canning celebration, here are 5 recipes from some of our favorite preservers!
Pickled Green Tomatoes
This recipe for Pickled Green Tomatoes is a delicious departure from the classic cucumber spears. Created by Ball Fresh Preserver Angie Holden, this recipe calls for garlic and dill which adds a ton of flavor! Tip: Green tomatoes may be used during all phases of ripening. If it's late fall and your plants are done, the green ones will remain firm once pickled and will have a tart finish.
Apricot Lavender Jam
From the All New Ball Book of Canning & Preserving comes this delicate Apricot Lavender Jam. Created by Chef Sarah Page of Jarden Home Brands, this recipe gains an aromatic and floral note from the lavender but makes for a perfect pairing with a cheese plate and crackers.
Peach Chipotle Salsa
Peach Chipotle Salsa? Talk about a powerhouse of flavors! Ball Fresh Preserver Malia Karlinsky created this recipe that combines freshly grown produce like peaches, bell pepper and onion with herbs like cilantro and garlic. You'll want to have your bag of tortilla chips ready!
Fiesta Peppers
Linda Ly of Garden Betty created this recipe for Fiesta Peppers that really brings the heat! You can use either serrano or jalapeño peppers and we recommend throwing this delicious mixture on a sandwich or fresh salad.
Spicy Heirloom Tomato Chutney
The sugar and raisins are what tones down the heat in this recipe for Spicy Heirloom Tomato Chutney, made by Marisa McClellan. She recommends dolloping this chutney in your favorite grain bowl for a punch of flavor.
