Restaurants serving American fare, both traditional and modern, dominated our list this year. In this category, the restaurants ranged from newer establishments, such as Next, Son of a Gun, and The Dutch, to more seasoned places like The Four Seasons and Charlie Trotter's.  

An emphasis on restaurants that serve seasonally focused food is readily apparent in this list, with Blue Hill at Stone Barns and ABC Kitchen leading the pack. The list also includes all kinds of restaurants, from a burger place (Father's Office) to gastro pubs (The Publican and The Walrus and the Carpenter) to fine dining establishments (Per Se and Canlis).
