DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – Downtown Detroit has been a Slurpee oasis for years, but lovers of the frozen drink no longer have to head to suburbs to get a brain freeze.
7-Eleven recently opened a 3,020-square-foot store at the intersection of Cadillac Square and Randolph, which is the second store the chain has opened in Detroit this year. The previous store opened on Jefferson.
The store, which opened July 31, offers the downtown workers, visitors and residents the mix liquid refreshments, fresh foods and hot items including pizza and chicken wings.
Company officials expect the store – which is located in a storefront that has been vacant since 2006 – to employ about 8 to 10 full-time equivalent employees.
Customers stated that it was "messed up" that Slurpees weren't available in Detroit and "shocked" that a 7-Eleven is now available in the city.
