Pizza Hut Is Rolling Out Hot Honey Pizza And Wings For A Limited Time
Hot honey has always been popular in certain parts of the United States. But over the last few years, the condiment has become more and more of a phenomenon. You'll see this sweet-and-spicy flavor on everything from potato chips to nuts to bacon strips — and especially drizzled on pizza and chicken wings. Now, you can add Pizza Hut to the roster of places where you can get your hot honey fix, as the popular pizza chain is rolling out two brand-new offerings: hot honey pizza and hot honey wings. Just be aware this offer is only for a limited time, and it's only at participating Pizza Hut locations in Dallas and Cleveland, per Restaurant Business.
The hot honey pizza consists of a classic Pizza Hut crust slathered in marinara sauce, covered in cheese, topped with both classic and cupped pepperonis, and then finished with the spicy taste of the restaurant's signature hot honey. This sauce is made by infusing chili peppers into honey, creating a condiment that's a spicy-sweet foil to the saltiness and savoriness of the pie beneath. The pizza costs $11.99.
The hot honey wings, available in both bone-in and boneless varieties, are dipped twice in the hot honey sauce for optimal flavor. They'll run you $5.99 for an order of six.
The hot honey craze lives on
Spicy-sweet sauces have always been around, but many attribute hot honey's immense popularization in the United States to a specific brand: Mike's Hot Honey. Founded in 2010 in Brooklyn, the company started off small but grew quickly, especially as a result of being served as a condiment at local pizza restaurants. Now, you can find the honey at almost any supermarket.
Pizza Hut isn't the only chain to jump on this hot honey bandwagon, though it is the most recent. KFC was on the trend back in 2018, releasing hot honey chicken tenders onto its menu (they've since been discontinued). In 2019, Burger King tested a hot honey sandwich in a limited capacity in Ohio. Wendy's was a few years after in 2022 with its own sandwich, but it was quickly discontinued.
Though hot honey seems to be popular as a limited-time flavor for fast-food chains, it clearly has staying power in the culinary world — especially as a delicious pizza topping.
