The Discontinued Trader Joe's Jackfruit Curry Fans Would Love To See Back
Trader Joe's is eminently known for its own line of products. From its Mandarin orange chicken to its cookie butter ice cream, the grocery store has dinner and dessert covered. But Trader Joe's notoriously discontinues products seemingly overnight, and fan-favorite yellow jackfruit curry with jasmine rice has apparently fallen victim to that.
This product is the grocery store's take on Thai yellow curry. However, the frozen meal is marked as "Not available" on the Trader Joe's website. While it's unclear exactly when the grocery-store chain stopped carrying its yellow jackfruit curry, it looks like the item is yet another to join the graveyard of Trader Joe's discontinued wares. One Reddit user alleged the jackfruit curry has been off the shelves since, at least, 2021.
The frozen meal has been a fan-favorite among Trader Joe's shoppers, with many raving about it on social media, such as Reddit and Twitter. "Honored to exist in the universe at the same time as Trader Joe's jackfruit curry," one person tweeted.
How to make a jackfruit curry dupe
While we aren't living in the universe where Trader Joe's yellow jackfruit curry with jasmine rice still exists, it's not impossible to replicate it. The product is a Thai-inspired curry dish made with ingredients you can find at Trader Joe's and other grocery stores.
The frozen meal is a coconut milk-based curry made from curry paste that consists of garlic, shallot, lemongrass, and various powders (coriander, cumin, turmeric), among other things. The curry also includes jackfruit, bell pepper, and eggplant paired with jasmine rice.
Trader Joe's does still provide a glimpse into how its jackfruit curry was made, at least. The curry paste can be "cooked over medium heat, then slowly simmered with coconut milk." But if you need exact cooking steps, consider making this Thai vegetable curry. It has similar flavors and ingredients that can satisfy your Trader Joe's-cravings. Plus, you can easily add canned jackfruit into the recipe.
Try Trader Joe's similar items
After you attempt to replicate the discontinued frozen meal with Trader Joe's canned jackfruit, you can also try other, related Trader Joe's products. While not exactly dupes of the yellow jackfruit curry with jasmine rice, these items can appease your jackfruit- and curry-cravings.
If you're a fan of Thai curry, one Reddit post shows that Trader Joe's carries frozen vegetable panang curry paired with jasmine rice. While there's no jackfruit in it, the curry is packed with vegetables such as baby corn, spinach, green beans, zucchini, and more. If you want to create homemade curry, but don't have time to whip it up entirely from scratch, Trader Joe's sells an assortment of Thai-inspired curry sauces like its yellow and red varieties.
Is jackfruit more your thing? Trader Joe's also carries a variety of jackfruit products in addition to its canned jackfruit. Jackfruit is a popular meat substitute due to its texture and flavors, so it's not surprising to see the grocery-store chain sell pulled jackfruit covered in barbecue sauce.
