The Chef-Approved Garlic Fried Egg That's Elevating TikTok's Breakfast Game
Over on TikTok, chef Hailee Catalano posts plenty of videos showcasing her favorite recipes, drink ideas, and cooking hacks. In one video, she shares how to make a fried egg with an extra added flavor element. She starts by using a mandolin to slice some garlic, then adds it all to a frying pan full of oil.
Once the garlic has been cooked in the oil for a bit, Catalano cracks an egg right in the center of the pan. She carefully moves the garlic towards the edges of the egg white, ensuring that all of the pan's contents cook together. She then covers the pan with a lid, trapping all the heat in while the egg continues to cook.
Once Catalano is satisfied with the egg's consistency, she seasons it with some salt and black sesame seeds. She adds it to a plate full of rice, then tops it off with a spoonful of ghost pepper chili crunch. She finishes the dish with some sliced scallions, avocado, and a little bit of soy sauce.

The dish features plenty of garlic flavor
While a fried egg is a pretty standard breakfast on its own, Hailee Catalano's recipe with the added garlic may seem a little more unusual to eat during the early hours of the day. Still, plenty of commenters on the video were left craving the dish, and garlic lovers praised the amount the chef used. Some even noted that the garlic clove, and resulting slices, were so large they thought they were actually slices of small potatoes.
One commenter thought that the amount of garlic in the dish would be detrimental to your breath for the rest of the day. Still, the plant has important health benefits. Garlic contains different nutrients and antioxidants that can help boost your immune system, reduce blood pressure, and even prevent heart disease.
Another TikTok user compared Catalano's dish to a popular Cuban dish: arroz con huevo frito. Catalano's food is a new take on the dish, which typically combines a fried egg and various condiments, like tomato sauce or sofrito, atop some white rice.
Catalano shares her culinary talent with her followers
Still, the looming threat of garlic breath wasn't enough to keep viewers from enjoying the food. One Instagram commenter shared that they'd already made the dish about 20 times since the video had been posted to social media. Another user wrote that they wouldn't even be able to finish the first plate before craving a second helping.
Hailee Catalano attended culinary school and worked in restaurants for a while before taking a break. During that time, she began her TikTok and Instagram pages, and she now uses her social media as a way to encourage viewers to make restaurant-quality food at home.
While Catalano has yet to post this exact recipe on her website, you can still head over there to find other delicious meals created by the chef — and you can always follow along with her social media videos for plenty of inspiration.
