Sautéed Garlic Broccolini Recipe
Broccolini, compared to its cousin broccoli, is known for its slightly sweeter flavor and smaller florets atop longer stalks. While somewhat challenging to consistently find at local grocery stores, we've had the most luck finding it at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Recipe developer and registered dietitian nutritionist, Kristen Carli, MS, RD, brings us this recipe for sautéed garlic broccolini. "I typically reserve broccolini for special occasions. Because of its appearance, broccolini has an air of sophistication, making it perfect to serve along upscale Entrée like garlic and herb New York strip steak or porterhouse pork chops."
The sweeter flavor of broccolini pairs perfectly with the extra dose of garlic in this dish. Carli adds a full tablespoon of minced garlic to really pack a garlic punch without being overpowering. Self-described garlic lovers will adore this recipe, but should feel confident serving this dish to their not-as-adoring family members and friends.
Gather your ingredients for sautéed garlic broccolini
To make this sautéed garlic broccolini, you can start by gathering your ingredients. For this recipe, you will need olive oil, minced garlic, broccolini, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
Sautée the garlic
Since this is a garlic broccolini recipe, you need a hefty amount of minced garlic. Carli notes "I will put garlic in any recipe I can get my hands on. I'm a true garlic lover. I recommend using 1 full tablespoon of minced garlic in this recipe for the full garlic flavor." Heat a large skillet over medium heat, then add the olive oil and minced garlic. Allow everything to sautée for at least 1 minute, or until the garlic is fragrant.
Cook the broccolini, then serve
Next, throw in your broccolini, salt, and pepper. Carli says "While you could chop up the broccolini before you add it to the skillet, I prefer to serve these in whole stalks for their appearance. There's something very elegant about a veggie side dish served this way. Broccolini stalks can vary in their thickness, similar to asparagus spears."
Sautée for at least 10 minutes, until the broccolini is vibrant green and tender. Then, add in the lemon juice and continue to cook for at least 1 minute. Then, remove from the heat and enjoy.
