Ranking Every Eggo Waffle Flavor From Worst To First

If you grew up in the U.S., you've probably eaten a Kellogg's Eggo waffle. According to Kellogg's website, Eggo holds the title of the "best-selling waffle in North America." This fact isn't too surprising, especially considering the wide range of Eggo flavors offered, as there is something to suit almost everyone's flavor preferences. Whether you prefer a thicker, heartier option or a thin and crispy waffle, Eggo more than likely has you covered.

Although these waffles were first dreamed up in 1935, it wouldn't be until years later, in the 1970's, that this brand would see its success skyrocket. In fact, the saying the brand is most famous for, "L'eggo my Eggo," was coined in 1972 and has been said by waffle lovers ever since.

Whether you shop for your waffles at the grocery store, local convenience mart, or your nearby superstore, you'll likely see some variety of Eggos lining the shelves. However, with so many options to choose from, you may feel overwhelmed. Never fear; the Daily Meal is here! We've ranked each available option by the storied waffle brand to help you make your best buying decision.

11. Kellogg's Eggo Apple Cinnamon Waffles

Cinnamon and apple should be a winning combo, but these waffles from Kellogg's miss the mark for us. The waffle's cinnamon flavor is very faint compared to other cinnamon-related items from the brand, and you can barely taste the apple component.

According to the ingredients list, these waffles don't even have actual apples in them — just apple powder (whatever the heck that is). To make matters worse, this ingredient is towards the bottom of the list, and the box says it has less than 2% of cinnamon and apple (powder) present.

If you're craving an apple cinnamon waffle, you'd be better off purchasing the original variety and adding your own toppings after toasting. However, if you're set on giving these subpar waffles a try, you can find them at retailers like Publix, Target, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and more. Please note that people are having difficulties finding the Apple Cinnamon waffles in store, so make sure to check ahead of time that your specific location stocks these.

10. Kellogg's Eggo Froot Loops Waffles

The Kellogg's Eggo Froot Loop Waffles taste like artificial flavoring personified. Instead of adding chunks or pieces of Froot Loops to the waffle batter, Kellogg's made this taste like one giant Froot Loop (but without the crunch). After viewing the ingredients list, we can see why this is the case–there isn't a single Froot Loop crumb included in these waffles.

"I love Kellogg's frozen waffles, but this Froot Loop flavor was a disappointment," an reviewer shared on Kellog's site. "They had the worst fake Fruit Loop smell and tasted nothing like a waffle...but instead a giant Fruit Loop. My husband (who is practically 'Elf') drowned them in butter and syrup and did not go back for seconds."

We're also slightly disturbed by what looks to be very small, colorful chunks of the cereal in the waffle. Now that we know there aren't actual Fruit Loops in the batter, we wonder what those dots actually are. If we had to guess, these dots are likely food coloring, which doesn't help.

9. Kellogg's Eggo Minis Homestyle Waffles With Maple Flavor

Kellogg's Eggo Minis had so much promise in the beginning — just look at how beloved the mini toast waffles are! Unfortunately, this product fell short. Similarl to that of the Fruit Loop waffle, one flavor dominates the entirety of these mini waffles: Maple. And we're not just talking about a light kiss of maple. We're talking dunked-in-a-vat type of flavoring. The result makes the waffle's flavor both overpowering and artificial tasting.

"The original could be eaten savory or sweet," reviewer one reviewer shared. "The maple flavor makes for a sweet breakfast & now I don't eat them. If this would change back to a normal flavor, I would happily continue buying them."

Other customers mentioned how 'chemical' these tasted and bemoaned the loss of their once-adored mini waffles. We remember eating the original version years ago and have to agree–the first edition was versatile and could be eaten with a variety of toppings. Now due to the excess of maple, you're pigeonholed into making this a sickly-sweet waffle.

8. Kellogg's Eggo Strawberry Waffles

Simply put, Kellogg's Eggo Strawberry Waffles are average to us. We like the mild — emphasis on the mild part — strawberry taste, but would choose other Eggo varieties over this one. As former American Idol Judge Simon Cowell once famously said to a performer, "It's forgettable."

"Less strawberries than 'leveling agent' (which is 'less than 2%' according to their ingredients)," a customer wrote. "I don't think the entire box contains enough to total one small berry. It is hard to tell though, because they added beet juice and other coloring. Since beets are not famous for elevating waffle recipes, I assume it's in there to impersonate fruit."

The customer may not always be right, but in this case they are correct. There aren't any strawberries in this specific waffle batter. If you're craving a waffle with strawberry flavor, we prefer the Liège-Style Strawberry Waffles. They're easier to eat on the go, have a unique batter texture and actually contain dried strawberries unlike their more traditional counterparts.

7. Kellogg's Eggo Blueberry Waffles

Plenty of people swear by the Blueberry Waffles from Kellogg's, but to us, they're just meh. The blueberry flavoring doesn't shine through as much as we'd like, but we do appreciate the variety of offerings. If we're going to eat blueberry waffles or pancakes, we prefer the blueberries to be large and juicy. Obviously these waffles are frozen, but we still wish the chunks were more significant.

One reviewer and their children feel the same way, saying, "These frozen waffles are convenient during the morning rush. But my kids wish they had more blueberries."

However, if you add your own blueberries and some syrup, you'll soon find that these waffles go down quite easily. We're not thrilled with the purplish hue, as it is actually just food coloring (based on the ingredients list) to make these waffles look more blueberry-heavy. These certainly don't taste like organic waffles, but if you have your expectations in the right place, you'll still enjoy them.

6. Kellogg's Eggo Grab & Go Liège-Style Strawberry Waffles

We love accessible breakfast options, especially when they involve Eggos. The Grab and Go Liège-Style Strawberry Waffles are one of the newest offerings from the brand. Each waffle has small strawberry pieces and can be eaten without the help of a toaster, although some reviewers swear by warming it up in the microwave.

Instead of having a traditional rounded edge like most waffles, these liège-style waffles have a raw edge. According to the Belgium Kitchen, liège-style waffles originate from Belgium but luckily, Eggo has made this treat easier for the average person to get their hands on. Curious about what makes them different from your average waffle? The brioche dough and the pearl sugar combine to give this waffle a spongy mouthfeel.

The strawberry pieces add depth to this waffle, but it tastes more like something you'd enjoy with ice cream rather than on its own for breakfast. If you are craving a regular waffle, you may be disappointed with this variation.

5. Kellogg's Eggo Homestyle Waffles

If you prefer a slightly thicker version of the traditional Buttermilk waffles from Eggo, you'll love the Homestyle edition. Besides the regular version, Eggo has also come out with multiple special-edition homestyle waffles. While browsing the freezer aisle, you may see Kellogg's Eggoji Homestyle Waffles, Mickey Homestyle Waffles from Eggo, and the Mandalorian Galactic edition.

We're not entirely sure how long these special homestyle waffles will stay on the shelves, so you should pick a pack up while you can. In our opinion, the original homestyle waffles are the best because they have a traditional woven grid pattern. On the other hand, the special-edition waffles have a smooth base and an imprinted image on top of that, which gives them a slightly weird mouthfeel.

However, if you have a picky kid, these fun prints may entice them to actually eat their breakfast for once, especially if they're particularly into Star Wars or Mickey Mouse. You can even jazz them up with fun toppings like whipped cream, chocolate chips or bananas to turn them into a delicious snack or meal.

4. Kellogg's Eggo Buttermilk Waffles

The Kellogg's Eggo Buttermilk Waffles are the original component of childhood breakfasts. You can't go wrong with a traditional Eggo waffle doused in maple syrup and butter. We're drooling just thinking about it. Pair yours with sausage links or a few scrambled eggs and you have a hearty breakfast to keep you going all day long.

"We have been eating Eggo waffles in our home for a very long time now," one reviewer explained. "I just felt like buying the buttermilk this time and I'm really liking them made in the air fryer. I can get great texture and a toasted finish. I even got some sugar-free maple syrup and loved them."

If you don't enjoy overly sweet breakfast, you'll love the filling (yet light) texture of these buttermilk waffles. They aren't overly rich, but still feel like an upgrade compared to the non-buttermilk variety. We'd equate these to the ideal waffle in terms of thickness and taste as they're not too sweet and not too thick.

3. Kellogg's Eggo Grab & Go Liège-Style Buttery Maple Flavored Waffles

Most of the time, waffles must be toasted or heated in the microwave. However, this isn't the case with the Kellogg's Liège-Style waffles. When you're ready to eat one, simply take it out of the freezer, let it defrost, and take it on the go with you to enjoy as an easy snack or breakfast.

"These waffles are super tasty and very convenient," a reviewer said. "I take them out of the freezer and stick them in the refrigerator the night before. Then just grab and go in the morning on my way to work. The texture is different from the typical waffles. It's thicker with a buttery taste and a hint of maple flavor. Good stuff!"

Although we also enjoy the Strawberry Liège Waffle, the buttery maple flavor is a crowd-pleaser. The rich notes of the creamy butter and the sweetness of the maple complement the doughy texture of the waffle itself. The best part is these don't even need extra butter and syrup. The perfect amount of toppings are already pre-baked in the waffles.

2. Kellogg's Eggo Chocolatey Chip Waffles

Feeling sad? You won't after you eat a Kellogg's Eggo Chocolatey Chip Waffle! The melty chocolate chips are evenly dispersed throughout each waffle, and the thickness is just right to provide a little crunch. If you're craving a sweet treat, these waffles are also great with a generous amount of hazelnut spread (added after heating).

"My kids and I both love these," a customer explained. "They taste great, with or without syrup. Kellogg's Eggo Frozen Waffles are perfect for mornings where you don't have a lot of time but want something besides cold cereal!"

We love to make our waffles in the toaster, but according to the box, these can also be cooked in the microwave, oven or toaster oven. If you're using a new method to heat your waffles, make sure to monitor them to prevent unwanted burning. Please note that this variety has 'milk ingredients' in the batter, which doesn't make them suitable for anyone highly allergic to dairy products.

1. Kellogg's Eggo Cinnamon Toast Waffles

Our favorite overall Eggo flavor? The Kellogg's Eggo Cinnamon Toast Waffles. These delectable waffles are delicious without any toppings but are further enhanced with small pats of butter or your choice of smooth peanut butter inside each grid. We also have to hand it to Kellogg's for making these a Kosher treat so our Jewish friends can enjoy.

"These are so delicious," a reviewer said. "My daughter picked them out because she liked the idea of the mini-sized waffles. I love how you don't need syrup, so there is no sticky mess. They taste really good on their own."

This waffle from Kellogg's is shaped like four small pieces of toast connected together, but the taste is anything but ordinary. Each bite has a generous helping of cinnamon, and the product is crispy and golden when toasted properly. We recommend slightly over toasting these for the most pleasing crunch, but that choice is up to you. Whatever way you slice it, these Cinnamon Toast waffles will be a morning staple.
