Where Is Baker's Edge From Shark Tank Today?
Pastry chef Emily Griffin and her husband, Matt, wanted to create the perfect brownie, as they explained on ABC's "Shark Tank." The duo agreed that corner and edge pieces of the brownie were the best, and they wanted to create a pan allowing everyone to get the perfect bite. The pan utilizes metal "walls" inside the pan to create a channel for the brownie batter to fill. The allows for every piece of the brownie to get at least two crispy edges, no matter where in the pan it's cut from.
The couple began selling the pan in 2005 and earned a utility patent on the design. The pan gained attention and was even featured on Oprah's list of 2010 favorite things. Oprah's endorsement for the food brand brought in $1 million in sales in just 30 days. However, the popularity slowed down, and the duo wanted to regain that.
To kickstart the company again, the couple took their products to "Shark Tank" in search of an investment.
None of the Sharks invested in Baker's Edge
Matt and Emily Griffin appeared on "Shark Tank" in Season 5, Episode 29. The Griffins sought a $400,000 investment in exchange for one-fifth ownership of the company. After explaining the product, the couple discussed the investment with the Sharks. They admitted that business had been slowing down, and they hoped to champion a new muffin pan design to follow the success of the brownie pan.
Lori Greiner called the brownie pan design "revolutionary," but Kevin O'Leary was unimpressed with the company's current sales. Mark Cuban agreed that the product was impressive upon launch but didn't see a future for it. Robert Herjavec agreed that the duo waited too long to try to break back into the success they had seen previously. O'Leary was more focused on the future plans for the company rather than past success, so he went out.
Greiner praised the brownie pan once more, saying she admired the genius design of the pan. She was, however, concerned with business sustainability, and ultimately decided to go out. Barbara Corcoran was uncomfortable with investing in the muffin pan and told the Griffins that she was "reluctantly" out.
You can still purchase the brownie pan
Ultimately, Emily and Matt Griffin left without an investment from any of the Sharks. During their exit interview on "Shark Tank," Matt said he thought the Sharks were too hung up on their "sales plateau," viewing it as bad news for the company as a whole. Matt, however, said that they had "a long way to go" with the products.
However, that wasn't the end of their journey with the Sharks. In 2022, Sorfeo acquired Baker's Edge, according to Digital Journal. Mark Cuban invested in and works as an advisor for Sorfeo, so despite not wanting to invest, Cuban wound up involved with Baker's Edge after all.
Today, Baker's Edge is still in business, selling its products via its website. The company offers the classic Edge Brownie Pan, as well as the muffin pan that the Griffins pitched on "Shark Tank." The site also sells accessories including lids, wedges to keep the pan's rows separated, and specialty spatulas designed to fit perfectly in the pan.
