Costco's Cilantro Lime Rice Is A Total Chipotle Dupe
When you order at Chipotle, you can order white or brown rice with your dish. Both rices are boiled with bay leaves for some extra flavor, then seasoned with lemon juice, lime juice, and cilantro. While this rice is tasty on its own as a side dish, it also serves as the perfect base for Chipotle's burrito bowls or a delicious component inside its rolled burritos.
Other Mexican food-inspired restaurants like Moe's Southwest Grill and Qdoba serve up similar fare to Chipotle and also offer cilantro lime rice that customers can order as an option with their food. Moe's even allows it as an addition to its quesadillas and stacks.
Dining at these quick-service restaurants might be delicious, but eating out can get expensive. Fortunately, there is a rice product at Costco that can make it even easier to recreate your favorite Chipotle order at home to satisfy your burrito-bowl cravings.
Build your own burrito bowls using this rice
Instagram user @costco_doesitagain posted a photo of a box of Ritika's Global Grains branded organic Cilantro & Lime Rice, which is being sold in Costco stores. The rice is organic, vegan, and gluten-free. The box advertises that the rice is made with fresh cilantro and lime in each packet. Each box contains six 8-ounce packets of fully cooked rice, which can be heated up in the microwave in just 90 seconds.
Commenters on the post were quick to point out that the rice was similar to the version served at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Instagram user @breeups13 commented on the post, "Chipotle ...DUUPPPE!" Another commenter replied, saying that it "tastes just like chipotle rice!" Another user suggested making at-home recipes inspired by another quick-service restaurant, writing "Moe's bowls at home!"
Since the flavors of these rice packets closely mimic the cilantro lime rice of these restaurants, they are perfect for recreating your favorite orders in your own kitchen.
The rice isn't sold at all Costco locations
The Ritika's Global Grains Cilantro & Lime Rice can be used to make homemade versions of your favorite fast-food items. You can find copycat recipes to build your own burrito bowls, serve it up as a side to your quesadillas, or roll it into your homemade burritos.
While this rice is only available in Los Angeles-area Costco locations for now, the brand may expand to more locations nationwide in the future. According to a January 27 post from the brand, it was previously available in the Midwest and Northwest regions; and a February 24 post shared that it had been found in Texas. At Costco, a box of six packets costs $8.99.
The Ritika's Global Grains Instagram told fans in the comments of @costco_doesitagain's post to "follow our page to see where we stock next." Its website states that its products can also be found in Kroger, Whole Foods Market, Ralph's, and on Amazon.
