Does Chick-Fil-A Actually Serve Any Vegan Options?

From non-dairy milk at coffee shops, to plant-based meat alternatives, more vegetarian options have popped up in restaurants over the last few years. Whether you consider yourself vegetarian, vegan, flexitarian, or are just curious to try plant-based foods, there are plenty of accessible options.

Finding plant-based items at fast food spots is now easier than ever. Taco Bell is certified by the American Vegetarian Association and even has an entirely vegetarian menu. Burger King's Impossible Whopper can be made vegan when ordered without mayonnaise and White Castle serves up Impossible Burger and Veggie Sliders.

However, there are a few places that may be a little trickier to navigate in terms of plant-based eating. Chick-fil-A may not be the first restaurant that comes to mind for a hungry vegan, as the chain specializes in serving up chicken, so it doesn't seem obviously vegan-friendly. But if it's your only food option, are there any safe vegan choices on the Chick-fil-A menu?

Some vegan options at Chick-fil-A

The answer is yes, according to the Chick-fil-A website, but the options may not necessarily curb your hunger. If you want a quick snack, there are a few items on the menu that are vegan-safe. If you want a small snack for breakfast, the chain's crispy hash browns and fruit cups are available. Each chilled fruit cup contains sliced apples, oranges, strawberries, and blueberries. The Waffle Potato Fries are also vegan.

When you're craving something a little more substantial, you can make some modifications to a few menu items. When you remove the chicken and blue cheese from the Market Salad, you're left with apples, blueberries, strawberries, romaine lettuce, and baby greens. The Grilled Cool Wrap can also be ordered sans chicken and cheese, leaving you with lettuce, cabbage, and carrots inside a flatbread.

The Polynesian Sauce, Light Balsamic Vinaigrette, and Light Italian Dressing are all vegan and can be added to finish off your meal or dip your fries in.

Its menu could feature a plant-based sandwich

Chick-fil-A also recently began testing the addition of a plant-based sandwich to its menu. The sandwich swaps cauliflower in place of the chicken, which is breaded and fried in peanut oil. The sandwich was only available in a few select cities for a limited time to test the reactions of customers. Though the sandwich isn't available nationwide yet, the chain may add it in the future if it proves popular enough.

However, the Chick-fil-A website notes that the sandwich is "plant-forward," but not vegetarian due to the cooking process. While these foods are technically vegetarian- and vegan-friendly, Chick-fil-A does note that its restaurants do not designate vegetarian-only prep spaces in the kitchens — meaning that the food may come in contact with meat or dairy products.

If you follow a strictly plant-based diet and don't want to run the risk of having your food cross-contaminated, you may want to avoid the restaurant altogether and find another option.
